The work I have presented here for the degree show is a mix of sculpture, digital art, painting and fibre art. My practice concerns itself with themes of the inanimate and animate, the human narrative within nature, authorship and the creation of fiction. My work invites the audience to see the inanimate in the context of sculpture and allows the viewer to question what is real or interactive. Commenting on belief systems, mythology and the power of the object, I like to place materials together to create their own story and narrative. I holistically experiment with a range of material, using oil paint and charcoal to visualise ideas which I later turn into sculptures and fibre art pieces. With a heavy emphasis on the ethics of waste and the human’s place in nature, I use reclaimed and recycled items to create a history and narrative for the pieces. My working method is developed though the medium I am using: from sketch to tapestry, the narrative of the stories I create develop as the materiel form does.
I like to create art that sits on the line of fine art and craft. The medium often speaks for itself, as I allow chance and spontaneity to dictate the direction of the pieces.
Fabric and faces, stones and paint: I like to create a disorderly world that somehow makes sense.
