My Major Project consists of a series of cross-disciplinary tasks which are connected through materiality and a ‘revealing’ design approach.

I am designing for the skin care brand Aesop and I started with redesigning an existing product. I developed my proposal around the idea of compostability and emotional durability with the passing of time. These qualities were translated in the Pop-up store and the Brand Pavilion. The Pop-up is located at Waterloo Station and its design is focused on the motion and experience of passengers. The Pop-up is a multi-use structure which incorporates furniture, packaging, and an installation. It communicates the metaphoric idea of ‘HOW HUMANKIND ALTERS NATURE AND ITS RESOURCES TO MEET INDUSTRIAL PURPOSES’.

The ideas developed from the Pop-up were translated in the Brand Pavilion located in Bishopsgate Goodsyard, Shoreditch. After analysing the site, I identified the following key issues- the lack of green spaces and the lack of communication between the diversity of communities in the area. I wanted to approach the issues through my design and after thorough design development I decided to base my design around the key space- the garden and the concept of a passionflower for the design. During the process I gave special attention to brand identity, spatial experience, natural light, the user journey and the interaction of services. With this pavilion I want to bring people together, to educate them about natural materials and processes and to show them the beauty of nature. I am using the knowledge I’ve gained from fabricating biomaterials to create a new product line based on the climate and identity of Shoreditch and ideally to stimulate the production of products customised for different regions of the world.

Interior design has a cross-disciplinary nature and it should be celebrated.
