My initial idea comes from my childhood memory, when my mother was altering kids garments to fit my sister and me in order to give the garments a longer life. And my mother told me that my grandma used to do this as well, which made me think of ‘make do and mend’ in WW2 when people were sourcing non-garment fabrics to make clothes to wear.
By upcycling vintage curtains, I am giving them a new life as a fashion piece as well as recalling family memories which emphasizes sustainability and how we pass down the awareness of reducing wasting from generation to generation. I believe by telling stories of my own in my design, doing my best to spread the awareness of sustainability, and show how fashionable upcycling design can be, more and more people will paying attention to sustainability.
