Inspired by the different phenomena between light and materials, I experimented with nylon nets and got stripes that looks like the shape of marine life. That reminds me about ocean plastic wastes. There are square rings on both end of stripes. People can change the shape into they want by bending stripes and changing positions of stripes. Because the unique way of assembling, every light is unique. The light will get different effect with different bulbs such as warm white bulb and cool white bulb and every aspect of it is different. The fabric with random folds looks like the body of sea lifes and wire looks like the vein. I found a material that recycled from ocean plastic pollution. I hope the light could remind people the serious situation of ocean plastic pollution through the combination of marine shape and ocean plastic.

The inspiration of this project is the interaction between people and objects. Although objects around us are lifeless, they can still influence us through senses of smell, touch, hear and so on. I choose the sense of touch to develop and keyword is “HAPTIC”. I choose sofa as the medium because it is one of the furnitures that we spend most time on. I use four materials and each cushion has two different materials, so people could flip them to change material. People can choose different materials even colors in different states, moods and seasons. The material and colors can be combined by customers. I hope this haptic sofa could make people rethink about the relationships between themselves and objects.
