Itchy 9 is a wordless story composed of 10 lino prints. A series of images of lives in the big city is on display, showing people from different backgrounds and identities in China today: migrant workers, overworked men, A pregnant woman who smokes secretly in the toilets of shopping mall; Husbands who cheating on men, hospital nurses with expressionless faces, children unable to receive an education due to “Hukou” problems, Flattering young couples at a social dinner. It opens with people wandering in a bustling city covering their ears because of a noisy construction site and closes with the figure of the protagonists in front of a chaotic fire scene hiding their secrets.
The visuals bear a strong influence of German expressionism, combined with the rough and strong visual style of lino printing to express the conflict and anxiety in society and my opinion and criticism of social phenomena.
