This project explores the importance of the commonalities that we all share and cultural empathy. It challenges the assumptions that we often make about people who seem different from us. The outcome of the project, My Neighbour Must Be a Monster, is a picture book aimed at 10-14-year-olds. It tells the story of two neighbouring dragons, one from the East and one from the West, who have misunderstandings about each other because of their different cultural backgrounds. In an emergency they are forced to help each other, and they eventually eliminate stereotypes and misunderstandings to become good friends. Presented with a cute drawing style, this book explores the importance of cultural empathy and tolerance in a metaphorical and relaxing story. Both children and adults will find enjoyment in this reader-friendly picture book.
