Traces of Living Existence
This project focuses on our relationship with the places that we inhabit. It explores the traces that we leave behind us and the traces that are left behind on us. The animation with accompanying installation uses visual, acoustic, and three-dimensional language to bring a now-demolished Shikumen house (a traditional dwelling in Shanghai) back to life. Through the illustration, the audience can see the living traces that previous residents and generations left on the architecture, and they are encouraged to reflect on what might have been lost as a result of the large-scale regeneration and refurbishment of cities, especially for those who were witnesses of the torrent of changing times.
