Flapper Worker’s Party

The title of this project is the Flapper Worker’s Party. Flapper girl represents women’s independence, they can get more freedom and confidence in their life. I want to present that even if we can’t wear feathered accessories and low-waisted dresses all the time, we can’t forget to live in a free and liberating mindset in our life. For the last term, I researched Nigeria’s citizens’ traditional clothing in their ancient times. I experienced exploring clothing development for a country, so that’s the reason why I want to search the history of one country in a period. The flapper girl achieved the development of gender neutrality in the 1920s, which broke the original impression of women’s clothing. Through this project, I can explore the clothing styles on people’s original images and use this influence on how I design garments for a contemporary audience, reflecting what modern-day women’s liberation can look like.

I created a garment for a woman who works in machinery industry in day time and joins the party in night time. I want to present that even if we can’t wear feathered accessories and low-waisted dresses all the time, we can’t forget to live in a free and liberating mindset in our life.
