Tereza Havadejová is an emerging filmmaker and cinematographer from Slovakia, specialising in experimental filmmaking.
Her practice has been concerned with visual interpretations of the themes of duality of the human subject, and the world as such, using the symbol of a mirror and reflective materials as a portal between the real and surreal, while often experimenting with camera optics and various equipment to form her visual language.
In her most recent works, she takes inspiration from her cultural background- deconstructing, reinterpreting, and experimenting with aspects of Slovak mythology, folk traditions, ceremonies, family stories, as well as the pagan and religious duality of Slovak culture, while discussing its preservation, current meaning and relevance.
Using her interest in the Surrealist movement as a framing device, she explores its relationship with folk traditions- employing ideas of the carnivalesque, play, reverting of norms, staging, and reenactment within her films.
