Street art is something that is found outside in the public sphere. How can we bring this art inside the museum walls? “Curating Vandalism” looks into street art as an art form and into curating an exhibition for The Design Museum. Research delves deeper into the questions, why isn’t street art found in museums and do street artists want to be included in art institutions? Using these questions as the base, this exhibition was curated with the intent to preserve the original meaning of the art by recreating the outside world. The exhibition aims to help people understand street art and its ephemeral nature. It is not a means to preserve the physical art but is a way to document the art of the current times without trying to conform it to the institution’s standards.
