Exquisite poor: symbol consumption behaviour in the context of consumerism
It is a fantastic materialistic world. There are mysterious vending machines hidden here. So please take your ID and initial gold coins to start your journey! The mystery vending machine automatically identifies the ID attribute and matches the corresponding speech art for different consumers. The only rule in the materialistic world is “you shop there for you are exquisite.” But if you leave the materialistic world, please pay off your debts. The project reflects how current consumerism creates and sells demand and lets consumers fall into capitalists’ carefully designed trap. It is hoped that through this project, participants can understand how to live in the real world outlined by consumerism.
