I am Sanya Mangal, a Fashion Design graduate from the Indian Institute of Art and Design (IIAD). I explore the fashion world as a way of creating new languages and identities within our society, working towards a positive impact not only in terms of recognition of the importance of human expressions but also from an ethical point of view; through a contemporary and unconventional use of craft and responsibility around what we produce. Adapting sustainable alternatives to design, I have a certain affinity towards transformable garments that explore the spaces of wearer and clothing unusually, and in turn, making well-made, longer-lasting designs. Ultimately, I intend to create value through designs and innovate deeply ‘thought through’ clothing.

Being a critical thinker, I am constantly introspecting and contemplating ‘spaces’ around me, letting my subconscious direct my design process. It fascinates me to discover how everyone has a different perception of viewing something from their own ‘mind space’. Thus, my inspiration for various projects usually arises from human spaces, identities, feelings, thoughts and perceptions, and viewing it unusually. I visually interpret my concepts through collages which reflect subdued moods and colour tones. I largely emphasise and explore silhouettes, materiality, functionality  and intricate details. My design language lies in clean, crisp and a touch of avant-garde expression.

I am constantly expanding my skills in Adobe software like Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator along with Sketchbook and Procreate. My strengths lie in experimenting with digital media, collages and technical CADs as well as research, context building, silhouette and technical construction of garments, especially using transformable design strategies. Additionally, exploring and amalgamating materials to develop surfaces is another interest that I have discovered hands-on through my journey.
