I believe that rhythm in architecture creates a unified and an organized flow of movement in and around a building. The structure of the building is what allows the people to move through a certain sequence of spaces creating a sense of rhythm. The most common way of applying rhythm to a structure is repeating simple elements such as shapes or colors over and over again, evenly spaced to create a pattern. Another type of rhythm is random rhythm, which is repeat- ing elements through irregular repetition. Finally, progressive rhythm is a slight change of elements every time the elements are repeated. I will be applying rhythm to my proposal in order to enhance aesthetic appeal as well as create interesting architectural compositions. I will be using rhythm to draw attention to particular areas in my building. Parts of my structure will be extruded forward repetitively to create visual rhythm for the dwellers. I will not only be using rhythm for the structure but also for the ground. I will be applying different paving textures in a rhythmic way to represent the communal areas in my project. This will illustrate how rhythm in space can create an organized flow of movement and circulation in and around the building.
An environment that supports the dwellers in meeting their social needs by creating an intimate form of structure to make the residents feel part of a safe and lively community. Rhythm is implemented in my proposal through unique geometrical forms, different brick volumes, and shadows to enhance the interior spaces.
