I am Qianxue Chen. I come from China. Before taking GDCP course, I used to major in fashion design in Tsinghua Academy of Arts and design. Although my undergraduate major is not illustration, I have always been very fond of it. I think illustration is a more intuitive, diversified and free way to express idea and concept. Therefore, I have been learning illustration by myself during my undergraduate period, and I have chosen illustration as my postgraduate study direction.
During GDCP course, I participated in many interesting projects, including the understanding of the target audience, the observation of life, the analysis of myself, the solution of practical problems and so on. I learned a lot of practical skills, and more importantly, my creative thinking changed. I learned to reflect, to collaborate, and to observe things from different perspectives. On my website I share some of the works that I have created during this course.
Speaking of what I’m interested in, social problems and phenomena are the main source of inspiration for my illustration creation. I have created many illustrations reflecting social problems. The public spirit and emotional value of illustration are the most important parts for me. In terms of creative methods, I am mainly good at digital painting and hand painting. Additionally, I love experimenting with different forms, such as picture books, posters, booklet and storyboards.
I used to major in fashion design, but I chose illustration as my new direction of study. The projects I created during the GDCP course were about the understanding of the target audience, the observation of life, the analysis of myself, the solution of practical problems and so on.
