Dressed in Stories

When you buy a vintage item, you are not only buying a unique style from a certain era, but also a piece of another person’s past. A vintage piece may have been passed on over decades and that story becomes an irreproducible part of the item itself. This project consists of a 1950s style fashion dress. In the pleats, there are memories in the form of stories from the three generations of women who have worn the dress. The dress is a window for them to talk to the past. When they wear it, they connect with the previous owner’s, thus the memories of the past live on through the dress. The stories can only be seen when you open the dress. By doing so, vintage lovers and vintage shop owners can actively discover the history behind the vintage pieces they own.  At the same time more people will understand the value of vintage items and will pass on this sustainable lifestyle.
