My interest in forms and their relationships led me to explore the world of compositions. This piqued my curiosity regarding the idea of how can I translate composition into a piece of furniture. I explored compositions in various ways including the foundations of art and design, the history of abstract art, sculpture, contemporary design and self-study, including composition in day-to-day life. I documented moments that caught my attention, which helped me understand and identify my perspective on composition. I adopted a framework that assumes the designer is the author of the composition, similar to the way a painter or sculptor works, in that the final result remains static. My exploration led me to develop a formal language that I translated into 2D and 3D mediums, which led to my final design. In doing so, I aimed to create asymmetrical balance relationships, which is expressed in visual variety and unequal weight.

La Forma Daybed is a sculptural piece that sits on the seam between art and design. The design intends to create visual interest for the viewer and the user. The bed encapsulates the relationship between volume and proportion, as well as the interaction between soft and hard materials alongside solid forms and thin lines. The variety of forms is balanced with the soft natural colour palette of the bed, which creates a sense of harmony.
