Child sexual assault will seriously harm the physical and mental health of children. The law, society and families should hold up a protective umbrella for children and make joint efforts to reduce the occurrence of child sexual assault cases. The project ‘Bird’ tells a story about a sixteen-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted by her stepfather when she was eleven. Later, she could not bear it anymore and told her mother. But her mother did not want to make things worse, then she just fled to another place with her daughter. The story was told from the girl’s new life in the small town, and the whole process was almost all her psychological struggle.

Characters and Their Images

The pink and purple bird represents her inner self. the bird representing the protagonist is the embodiment of the hidden positive side in her heart. The bird leading her to break free from the chain, face herself again, and summon up the courage to protect her inner longing for good things and freedom.

The sword inserted in her heart represents the harm she has suffered, not only physically, but also pierced her heart. It hurt to insert it, but it was more difficult to pull it out.

The black eagle was a memory of her past, a pattern on the man’s T-shirt and it represents the person who had hurt the girl. No matter where the girl went, he seemed to be everywhere. The eagle can fly freely like her bird and because of it the girl locked her bird to keep the bird safe from the eagles.

And the flowers to represent the mother with weak actions. Despite the mother could take her away from the people who hurt her and gave her some comfort, she failed to stop the tragedy in time, nor could she fight back powerfully after the tragedy.

This project expresses my hope that the victims of child sexual assault can put down their psychological barriers and face life again. But the most effective way is not to let the injury happen at all.

Her bird had beautiful feathers and huge wings. She should fly to any place she wants to go. She should be free. Although the eagles would not disappear, the fear would not dissipate  and the enemies outside were always eyeing, she now had a sword of courage.
