For this project I created an Alternative Reality Game [ARG] for the Society of Antiquaries of London. ARGs—in their most basic form—are online scavenger hunts that utilise transmedia, connecting multiple mediums and formats to create an extensive and engaging narrative for players to uncover. My own game explored the capabilities of ARG in museum settings and how they can be an engaging, new medium even with a limited budget. The Society of Antiquaries has been a learned institution since 1707 however, they only accepted invited members until 2014 when they became a public museum. This history contributed to the Society being relatively unknown to the general public which became a problem. However, this mysterious nature of the Society made it the perfect setting for an Alternative Reality Game. As such I created my ARG in order to find a way of connecting with new and younger audiences, as well as increasing the public’s familiarity with the Society.
