Hi I am Malavika D, an illustrator and communication designer from Kerala.
I’m more than a communication designer; I love traveling, exploring, and learning new things. I also enjoy capturing unseen beauty and sketching them. I have always drawn inspiration from my culture and the stories that I have heard. Do what you love and love what you do. I decided I want to become a designer when I was in 7th standard. I wasn’t so sure about which field but I knew I want to follow a creative path. My school was different from other schools. We learned things through activities and art. From then on art was my language.
My interest lays in exploring and finding a connection or a story in what I create. DESIGN for me is problem-solving through creativity. The projects and internship experiences has made me more confident about my skills. I see things in detail now and I started questioning and thinking. I used to work as an artist, I made visually engaging content but later I started questioning my work and realized design is not all about creating beautiful things. I started thinking, What am I creating, Why am I creating and For Whom and How it is going to benefit someone.
The major Design project is a summary of all the four years of learning at IIAD and a way forward to the industry. Identifying my personal strengths and skills acquired during this academic experience. I chose an industry based project for my MDP and got selected at Ladder Media. The task was to do the company’s branding from scratch and since they were new to the market
they had a clean slate. The scope of project allowed me to showcase my skills at the fullest.
Observation is the key to identify the problem, Creativity and imagination is like a bridge that leads me to the solution and the most important thing is to have empathy.
“Design for a better future”
As a designer I want to make a connection with the world. I want to do something more than just creating visually engaging content. Identifying a problem and creating the best possible solution, is my passion along with line drawing illustration and photography.
