Mai Nakajima is a multidisciplinary image maker from Japan. Her work is centred around collating voices and stories from invisible senses, objects, places, everyday life and communication with people. She translates them into her practice and creates them through a range of mediums. Using hands is a crucial part of her creation to connect with the voice and stories. Through her process, she tries many experiments to catch fragments of them, which are too small and quiet to be recognised by everyone. She cherishes the moments of finding out the unexpected tales and enjoys listening and thinking of them through making. Mai’s works convey the voice and the stories, which are hidden and unfamiliar, and remind of that everything and everyone has their voice and there are many exciting tales around us.

It is essential to find out my voice as well as collecting the others. Drawing is a necessary practice for me. I can know what I see, feel and think from my drawings. They allow my work to expand and show me many directions.
