Ornamental Fermentation
A collection of ornamental glass fermentation jars designed to discourage people from wasting food by integrating fermentation elegantly into everyday life. Designed for display, these glass containers celebrate the journey from fresh to ferment. The project re-introduces people to sustainable food preservation techniques of the past that have been increasingly lost due to modern food culture and consumption habits.
Each fermentation jar consists of three pieces; the main body, the collar and the hat as well as two glass weights. The main body holds the ferment, the collar slide onto the neck of the body and holds the moat of water, the hat sits in the moat of water and allows gas to escape but also seals the jar. Each part is functional but also builds the ornamental silhouette.
