Madeleine is a South London based visual artist and curator. Her work explores identity politics, utilising the theory of sign systems and semiotics. This is depicted through paintings, photography and drawing.

Madeleine’s work relies heavily on collaborative work with members of her community in both visual and non visual ways. The project ‘Who see’s and who is seen’ is a collaborative ongoing project that aspires to refocus individuals in their experiences as fat femme women of colour. This has been achieved through first hand accounts as well as creative partnerships. Her work often touches on ideas of how race, gender and sexuality intersect to inform the human experience.

Madeleine is also very interested in paint as a medium and how colours, light and shadow can create a tone in a portrait.

A series of portraits of black individuals. These paintings focus on colour and tonality to convey an individuals identity in the form of a portrait, and significantly provide viewers with an example of  black identity within the art of painting.
