Hi my name is Liu Jiabao, from Shenzhen, China. Before the GDCP, I studied animation in Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai.  Now I want to share some stories between art and me.

When I create my art work, I tend to focus on the subject of social topics, like social media, I am very concerned about some social topics, such as Internet addiction and the impact of COVID-19, the biggest topic in modern times. When I pay attention to these topics, I will think about it and have a desire to talk. Moreover, I like to use pictures to express emotions or convey my thoughts.I tend to and like the combination of traditional hand-painted and digital painting. Some textures of traditional hand-painting really appeal to me, such as the scratch effect of crayons and the delicate pictures drawn by pencil or charcoal strips. Digital painting also can make the pictures more attractive. I’m still trying to find the balance between these.

Referring particular strands of illustration that I gravitate towards, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is my favorite art picture book derived from the best animated short film at the 2012 Academy Awards. The story book is very delicate and healing. It is telling that reading can purify and save the soul.I always look for inspiration in many ways, such as people in life, or natural scenery, or movies. Especially movies, it allows me to experience many different life stories. Among them, song and dance films attract me the most, such as the songs and pictures in La La Land. With the picture, the colors in the movie are also related to the mood of the music, allowing the audience to experience the greatest immersion in the visual and auditory sense. I hope that my future art works will have more possibilities based on my preferences and the discussions of the teacher and classmates.
