‘Alternative Fact’ is Chiuan’s graduate film. Inspired by her passion for mythology and speculation of how human behaviour of information receiving.
“Truth, the daughter of time.” People usually tend to believe in what they want to believe or what they are familiar with. Social media algorithms also feed us with what we want to hear instead of letting us think and analyze the information we receive. Is the truth can only be developed on the shreds of evidence, or should we doubt ourselves being critical and logical enough while we received these pieces of knowledge from others? Are we capable of being open-minded to view everything even when we are facing nonsense? Can we still see it without being arrogant or subjective?
This film introduces an alternative explanation of why our ancestors made those snake-like artefacts, and possible incidents that might had happened before the great flood. With this film, supposing people will only view it as an entertainment short film, I try to convey that most of the time, we passively absorb knowledge in our daily lives without questioning the authenticity. It would be unfortunate to simply let the media feed us or waiting for the time to reveal the truth without seeking other potential answers.
