Justine is an animator and maker who brings current issues to life using stories. Her showreel presents a collection of her recent animated work and highlights two key animations: ‘The Toothbrush’ and ‘In the Spotlight’.
‘The Toothbrush’ is a short film produced to make dental care engaging and fun for children. The film stars a sticky tooth and the trouble he finds himself in. The story and characters emerged from a comprehensive collection of initial sketches and research into the process of tooth decay. This practice of sketching is typically found in the early stages of her work and considerably shapes the animated outcome. It is how she ‘gets to know’ the underlying topic of the animation and her characters alike.
Justine’s second animation, ‘In The Spotlight’, features a moth who dares to bask in the gleaming garden lights. Challenged with transforming typically unliked moths into a character the audience could empathise with, and even like, Justine created a story to raise awareness of light pollution in the UK.
Justine is also interested in how visual design communicates the story. She enjoys exploring drawn animation and how physical materials and textures can enhance these images as well.

With a particular interest in environmental and health concerns, each character I create is designed to spark positive change in its audience. I believe that any object, animal or body part has the power to impact its viewer when it’s given a pair of eyes, a mouth and a personality.
