This project explores the philosophy of Taoism through an illustrated story The ” Lotus the Beauty” . The images use elements of animism, yin and yang, balance and life force as Tao visual elements. Each image is part of story and together as a whole. They stand alone united. The project features a girl who is both sensible and uncomplicated. At first, she rejects the love of the young scholar, cautiously watching to see whether he deserves her heart – even transforming into an odd rock. Finally, the two young people come together. She cares for the home, is intelligent, and knows her self-worth. Until Once she feels that her debt to him for being so kind to her has been repaid, so she left leaves the scholar to return to nature. “Tao emphasizes harmony, naturalness, simplicity and spontaneity. “ This story epitomises the Taoist notion, and she returns to nature. Meeting, and separating, are the constants of life. Balance is found in worldly life and in nature. The lotus flower takes on a figurative life, a manifestation of the Tao’s all-embracing spirit.
The story Lotus the Beauty extends the visual representation of Tao through a visualisation of Taoist concepts, such as Tai Chi and the transformation of Yin and Yang. It explores the philosophical question of Taoism: Balance is found in worldly life and in nature. It is vitality.
