Julia Joslin is an Illustrator and Image Maker, who uses her practise as an endless discovery of methods and material. Her diverse work enables her to branch out creatively, continuously testing and trying new ways of making. Julia’s work, “Through Space”, explores the vast, never-ending growth and expansion of Space, investigating the frightening yet electrifying prospect of it. Within this project, she investigates how to illustrate such feelings, which results in a series of outcomes, consequently engaging with different audiences and age groups.
“Embrace and Restraint” reflects on the distance people have had to keep from one another due to COVID, documenting individual stories and the effect that maintaining this distance has. The illustrations of the grasping hands were the result of extensive research on the topic of Touch, asking the questions; What does touch mean for different people? Do we need touch to form stronger connections and relationships? How does it feel not being able to touch others now? With this substantial research behind her, Julia creates Illustrations to reflect how so many people crave touch, but have to put the safety of themselves and others first.
I am an Illustrator who loves to work with colour, and with any material I can get my hands on. Working in so many mediums and ways means I am never tied down, and I love to move from one to another: it makes it more exciting!
