Traces Of Dissent signifies the misunderstanding of the countryside a part which is ‘counter’ and goes against the nature of the cities and the urban existence. The project building includes a 17th century barn on site for communal living and dining, a classroom which uses existing walls as spolia, a play tower, for visitors and a landmark to the local community, and 6 plots for a tower house self-build typology where the inhabitants will live and work on site communally. The building aims to celebrate the rituals of collective living, from dinners, traditional craft, music and playing games. The structures also allow for hosting public events such as markets, exhibitions, and performances in order of creating a livelier Mucking local community. It is essential to educate the children to celebrate the culture of communal living when looking to the future and sustaining the environment. The micro scale residency programme allows the children to have an intense and concentrated learning experience when staying at the site. As Mucking in the Angola Saxon times as a was a working settlement which used the Thames Estuary mouth for a small local port and housing for light house keepers this industry has modernised and no longer required. I would like to carry on with reversing the role of the Thames Estuary as a working river to its new role as a place of public amenity. The site is situated next to the Mucking Nature Reserve and visitors centre with curated walks which are linked to my site buildings. Inhabitants in rural conditions require spaces to gather in civic places, to align and communally work. The territory of the project aims to collect dwellers to celebrate their home. To become a tourist in your own town. I wanted to bring some play and imagination to escape reality. Transformative spaces which transport you to a place rather than a space.
PeopledLandscape, we would like to provide a new perspective of the English landscape, not one which is appropriated by British picturesque iconography. Essex has a reputation of being a commuter place, this day to day nomadic lifestyle has to change. Introducing a self sustaining community allowing people to live locally.
