Zoal Bench.

A self assembly furniture piece inspired by structural joints and my multicultural heritage, celebrating the marriage of English and Pakistani traditional furniture making.

The challenge was to design furniture with no fixtures or unnecessary materials with sustainable manufacture at the heart of the piece. However, the the dry joint construction is central to the design philosophy.

The bench being self assembly allows the user to be a part of the process, in doing so promoting an emotional connection and creating a longer life span, decreasing constant throw away attitude in the industry and society

The dry construction, inspired by campaign furniture, allows the piece to twist, adding a playful touch to the design.
Further becoming structurally sound when adding weight of the user.

Alshaay Tea Set

Alshaay is a ceramic tea set that allows people who are normally set in their ways to engage in an act of cultural appreciation without their knowledge.

The spoons make use of familiar archetypes, creating a sense of comfort for people self consciously as they don’t have to learn anything. Each spoon represents an action relating to the making of chai, which once used can be placed back on the wooden table that a has specific placements for the spoons.

Through observational research on chai making, Alshaay is a ceramic tea set that allows people to make chai ceremoniously.
