I am Huijun Li from China. I am now studying GDCP in Kingston University. Although this is my first year of graphic design, I quickly integrate myself into it, and find the real joy of studying and the right direction of my life.

This is my capstone project, whose theme is animal liberation. Millions of animal experiments are carried out each year in many fields closely related to our life. Food industry, pharmaceutical industry, cosmetics industry and so on are all inseparable from animal experiments. Most of these animals cannot escape the fate of painful death, but few people pay attention to these poor animals with tragic life.

I want to do this project to speak for these silent animals and I hope this project can attract people’s attention into the animal experiments and arouse the reflection of the experimenters who do these cruel experiments. Although we seem to be more “advanced” than the animals, these animals can also feel pain and despair just like us. I know that animal experiments play an important role in many fileds, but there are still many things we can do. For example, we can we find some alternatives and reduce the pain of the animals suffering in the experiments.

In the project, I made a “Museum” to show the theme of animal liberation. I used C4D to make these animals into dolls and put the surgical instruments onto their skin, hoping that through the sharp contrast between these figures of lovely dolls and the cruel experimental instruments to arouse people’s sympathy on the suffering animals and their antipathy to the animal experiments. I made a guidebook about the animal experiments, some dynamic posters to appeal against the animal experiments, and some costumes and a crystal monument to memorize those animals who suffered or died in the animal experiments. I hope more people can enter the “museum” and make some efforts to stop or reduce the cruel animal experiments.

I often use rich colors and variable graphics which can produce strong visual impacts to express my ideas. In the capstone project, I also add the elements of dynamic graphics and music to increase the appeal of my work and make my audience deeply understand the purpose of my design.
