Hello! I am Guneesha Jain and I am a recent Fashion Design graduate from the Indian Institute of Art and Design (IIAD), New Delhi. I’ve always had a certain affinity towards fashion, coming from a place known for its rich culture and a family that values art and culture. Because of the nature of this discipline, I’ve been able to delve deeper into the age-old traditions of our society. It has taught me the importance of travel in all its forms, and it motivates me to strive for a similar depiction in my work. I want my work and designs to be on the outside of those time portals, transporting us back to that one specific memory that fills our hearts while remaining in the present.
My work helps me in pushing happy recollections from the past and deciphering the nostalgia that lies behind them; the projects bring forth memories of a bygone era. My work is an example of bittersweet memories from the past recreated in today’s world, using a vibrant yet balanced colour palette. In my design language, I have an affinity for crisp and smartly detailed silhouettes. I am a firm believer that minimalism is possible without sacrificing drama, and I strive to express this as much as possible in my work.
Adobe software like Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as applications like Procreate, are now among my growing software skills. My research and concept development skills are particularly strong. Digitally illustrating and experimenting with digital media are two of my favourite things to do. I enjoy experimenting with the surfaces of clothing, and the Major Design Project helped me focus on that aspect.
“20 years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you did not do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
