Flo McCarthy’s practice focuses on attachment and detachment to the body. She explores themes of displacement by combining concepts drawn from considerations of personal autonomy and voyeurism. She uses film, photography, drawing, and performance to visualize this uneasy experience. Disjointed and intimate videos of windows and bodies represent the complex and sometimes inexplicable feelings that can come from the destabilization of one’s sense of self. Through portraying a glorified and surreal illusion of reality, she questions what it means to exist within a world that revolves around the perception of the corporeal.
