“School as Garden”
School is a space full of innocence and imagination. Hallsville Primary School on a beautiful big lawn is located in the centre of South Canning Town. This new school foyer is adding an intervention that creates a connection between two existing school buildings and has a relationship with street or biodiversity. School’s arcade, covered by the enormous open roof, is where children look up at the starry sky. This arcade space like the wall of the garden to protect the safety of children. Imaginative space in the eyes of the children allows appreciating the scenery in the garden from all angles. Children go through the garden, study and play in the garden. Learning is no longer an activity that can only carry out in the classroom, and nature can impart more knowledge.
School allow children to play and to sit to enhance their sense of belonging. There are three main areas for planting and playing outside. The entrance garden ensures the original site’s ecological structure and adds shrubs and flower plants to decorate the garden. This area can also be used as an activity area for citizens. Vegetable gardens and orchards are arranged on the east side of the arcade. The school provides outdoor courses for children. In the vegetable garden, teaching them planting skills and observe the growth process of plants. Exploit the maximum potential of the site design and stimulate the biodiversity in the site. A Center garden is a space carrying plants as a soft landscape. Introducing turf, shrub, flower, and native planting can enliven outdoor learning and activity areas, improve spaces for play, raising planter beds with small trees. Shrubs can provide shade and an outdoor seating area.
