Studio 3.6
The theme of the studio aims to preserve and promote a mixed-use inclusive city. Looking at an intimate kind of public space, focusing on the informal, the accidental small scale squares, alleyways and yards.

The proposal is located between the V&A Museum of Childhood and railway arches in Bethnal Green, East London. It is mainly a large 2-floor heavy duty workshop and a block tower, including rentable design studios, a cafe, shop, and various other spaces. The tower breaks Cromwell Road’s rhythm as it’s on a 45-degree angle, and the workshop follows that grid created while keeping its facade in line with the street. The irregular shape creates informal public spaces between the building and the existing.

The buildings aim to provide co-existence between the creatives and the public, that can attend classes in the workshop to learn new skills and interact with the community. The buildings support the community in Bethnal Green, specifically new business owners or makers. It offers them the space to make, store, package, sell, broaden their connections and expand.
