Quercus
A collection of playful yet sustainable furniture, the result of a material led investigation into Cork, it was shortlisted for the 2021 Conran Award. The two stools and trestle are designed to complement each other seamlessly, but all with their own individual character. The trestle utilises the natural grip of the cork, to firmly hold the glass table top in place, and the cork surface on the stools helps to bring a warm soft material into the home.
The name derives from the Latin names of its two main components Quercus Suber being the Cork Oak tree and Quercus Robur being the European Oak tree. The Fora stool features the same form and style as the Planus stool, the only difference being the grab hole in the centre. The Curva trestles are also of similar structural design to the stools utilising a laminated plywood core, with the Oak legs joined into this using a wedged tenon joint.
The Ocean Bucket
The Ocean Bucket is a set of playfully designed beach toys, designed to be made from 100% beach waste, they are designed for a lifetime not just one day on the Beach. The set is comprised of an octopus bucket and lid, squid like rake and whale spade. They are designed for durability with large wall thicknesses and maximum reinforcement.
This means they have a higher cost price than current market alternatives but the real story here is that every purchase helps fund further clean-ups. The project has just entered a pilot phase that is running with Plastic Free Torridge. The first “Beach Clean 4 Beach Toys” was held on Sunday 16th May, at Westward Ho! (North Devon). 40 people turned up to help and over just 1 hour along 400m of beach, 16kg’s of waste was collected. 8kg of this waste was deemed to be usable plastic waste (HDPE, LDPE, PP, PET and Nylon Rope)
