Hi, I am Andrea and I have just graduated in Fashion Design specialising in womenswear and knit. For my graduate final collection, I wanted to further explore my Spanish background and focus on a specific moment in time that interested me but had never explored before, this being the Spanish civil war. Specifically looking into the life of the Spanish refugees. Similarly, I wanted to bring a more recent issue and one I am very familiar and especially interested in, as I live in the south of Spain, which is the movement of immigrants from Morocco to Spain. In both cases I was really interested in their journey and what they take with them, how they travel and what they have to sacrifice and leave behind. In the case of the Spanish refugees, I was exploring the layers of clothing and belongings they were transporting, basically carrying their homes on their backs, inspiring many of my silhouettes. With the Moroccan immigrants I focused on what was left behind such as life jackets, entire wooden or inflatable boats, ropes and even clothes, which inspired a lot of my knit textures and fabric. As well I was very interested in what was brought to shore and the power the sea has on weathering these objects left behind. As a hole, I wanted to create a collection that reflected all this and that was fun, young, cool, and rich in texture and colour, elements that in one way or another are always part of my design identity too.
