My Role 

During the filmmaking of a short film Robomodern I worked as a Line Producer and was responsible for organizing the filmmaking process, controlling the budget and making sure that the work meets deadlines. I also used agile project management techniques and design thinking to achieve better results and make team working more effective.

Project Description

 Robomodern is a short sci-fi film that we made with the crew based in Moscow. Here is the annotation:

Future, 2050. The world is full of robots. Dima is a lonely stand-up comedian whose jokes are not understood. Kate is a married girl who cannot accept her child. They meet in a dating club and realize that they have the same feelings about robots — they both hate them. Dima’s audience consists of robots, Kate’s husband and child are robots. Will the uprising help and what makes people different from highly advanced technologies?

 Robomodern is now edited and sent to Russian and international film festivals.

 The Challenges

When it comes to making science fiction movies, it requires the specific decorations and make up. That is why we had to choose the location that looked futuristic and we decided to book a studio with the interior that would match with the world we needed to create.

By organizing regular team meetings we found solutions to the challenges we faced.

I also made a contribution to the decorations when I found the interior design studio that agreed to make a special table for our decorations for free.

Apart from this, we had a problem with the budget because the sum of money we planned to spend at first was not enough when it came to practice. As stated in the Agile Manifesto, responding to change is more important than following a plan. This idea is very useful in the filmmaking process, especially when the team consists of people with little experience. I changed the budget when we found out that it is needed to be changed and kept controlling its contingency.
