My interest in art is based on how we can use it as a method of communication and how art allows us to see the world through the artist’s perspective.

Through this interest, I developed a practice that explores subjective storytelling. Drawing from my personal experiences, art allows me to present the unseen and translate it into a form in which it can be accessed by others.

When I talk about the unseen, I am referencing internal experiences, these innately human processes we go through that aren’t necessarily always visible from the outside. Over the last year, I have explored a variety of these internal experiences and spent the last few months looking at how I can use art to re-create memories.

The work I am presenting is titled Me, Yo, मैं (Pronounced Me, Io, Meh) and is a video-based installation. It is made up of nine animations that are separated into three chapters. Each chapter is a different place where I have lived and the work flows through a structured narrative. I have always enjoyed moving between a variety of mediums, both analogue and digital, and this style of animation allows me to bring together all the different components of my practice.

The objects and places used in this work may not carry much significance on their own, however, these motifs and locations are extraordinary to me and each represents some of the most profound moments of my life. Each image, word, and sound come together to be a creative re-construction of special experiences of mine.

Mapping these moments through memory, this piece really is a reflection of where I am from and where I have been.

The images above are stills from the work, you can see the full piece at aemym.co.uk or via the link on the left-hand side.

“As communicators, artists should not just portray a subject. Their work should be a window to the thoughts and inner workings of their artist lives and minds”
