Well-being and prosperity in the city

It is a significant moment to visit well-being in city neighbourhoods. The pandemic disrupted the way we live and work. Trials have shown that a four-day working week can increase productivity and well-being, reduce unemployment, and could substantially decrease the UK’s carbon footprint. Automation or environmental impacts may necessitate a future with less work. If we worked less, what could we do more of?

The project proposes a new role of community hubs in every neighbourhood, encouraging in-person encounters. These could be coming in for a cup of coffee, asking a question to people who know and understand the local area, finding opportunities for fulfilling ways to spend time whether leisure or self-development. Where the most common reason for people not participating is currently lack of time, this proposal looks for nudges to help community participation to become the norm.
