Gang Culture is a societal subculture that is a product of past conditions impacting the treatment of specific youth groups today. Since the youth is the future, Gang Culture becomes a determining factor for the progression of London’s society. This is why I chose to look into a potential solution for it.
On beginning my research, I found that despite preventative measures taken by schools and the government, gang culture still has a strong presence in London today. Gang culture continues to impact society due to how our society thinks. Societal thinking is the catalyst to the issue of Gang culture. It increases the rate at which gang culture progresses, without itself ever being consumed. Therefore, it is not the external and temporary conditions such as money, that is completely responsible. It is mostly permanent influences such as societies perspective.
Gang culture is repeatedly presented as a time dependent issue and since we cannot reverse the past, we have been unable to find a solution. Why is so much energy invested into finding reasons for the existence of Gang Culture, instead of solutions?
It is healthy to question the purpose, cause and effect that societal subcultures have. This is because through questioning, a solution arises.
Actions come from thoughts, thoughts come from values and values come from lessons. So what is our school system not teaching the youth that results in them getting involved in Gang Culture?
Schools teach us that achievements, money and friends determine your value. This cannot be further away from the truth. But as a result of these lessons, children grow up to think their value is conditional and they jump on the never ending cycle for validation from others.
Getting into a gang can turn this cycle into a life threatening journey.
Teach our kids self-validation, unconditional love and gratitude. Then, let’s see how long Gang Culture survives in London.
If values are unaligned and unintentional, things happen by accident. However, when lives, futures and children are at risk, accident must be avoided at all cost. Gang cultures takes, ruins and troubles many lives. However, a change in lessons, values, thoughts and actions might be the solution to gang culture.
