The future is going to be autonomous, as the efficiency and usability will eventually outweigh any negatives. The delivery industry is already taking impactful steps towards this future. With the rapid development of autonomous and battery technology, the feasibility of automated delivery systems is growing. The current focus for delivery companies is using drones to facilitate the last mile. For my major project, I explored how a completely autonomous delivery system utilising drones and driverless technology could work.
Inspired by Honda’s Map project, I decided to communicate my concept through a stop motion. Using 1:50 scale models, I composed scenes designed to show off key features of the design. With each scene flowing into the next, the video maps out the autonomous journey. The focus is on how the vehicle and the drones interact with its environment. Driving each interaction is the need to complete it efficiently, pushing the boundaries of autonomous technology. The conceptual shape of the vehicle is an example of a form capturing function. Each component is geared towards the top opening, where the drones will interact collecting the parcels.
