I am Ray, a student from GDCP Graphic Design pathway. I like to challenge myself in my work and try different design methods. My works usually are inspired by daily life and trying to bring others happiness or solve some problem.

The picture above is my Capstone project. It all started with a piece of news about the sudden death of employees working overtime. I began to think about what I can do for those who are suffering from working overtime. I combined some Chinese cultural elements to design an overtime gift box. The purpose is to make people feel better when they work overtime, make them live more actively, and hope that they can balance work and life.

This package is made up of four items. The first item is a slacking guide calendar. The inspiration comes from the kungfu secret guide book that appeared in Hong Kong movies in the 1990s. I turned the old movie kungfu moves into slacking moves and updated the style of painting, to restore the illustrations from China’s ancient book. You can see the move’s name and month on the first layer of the calendar, and pull out the second layer, you will see a cartoon to describe how to lazy through this move. At the same time, the double-layer structure also reflects the “secret” of the script, increasing the interaction with readers.

The other three items in the gift box are zombie toys to relieve stress, a Fulu sticker, and a peach wood sword, and the shape of the gift box is a Luo Geng shape, all of which are inspired by Taoist films.

In my practice, I am interested in questioning my creative process, considering nature and humanity and reflecting on social problems. I use 3D, motion graphics, and graphic colours to express my design.
