Flags of Humanity is a community design project by Lucy Llorente and Karenza Sparks.

“Flags can be used to unify communities by giving them a shared symbol, and encourage a sense of pride in the community.
Flags can be used to establish possessions and territories of a community. They can also be used for awareness. They say, ‘this is who we are, and we are here’.
Flags divide groups. When making a flag you can think about why you might make this division, how it might be useful, and when you might fly the flag.”

As the conclusion of a 3-step workshop, Lucy and Karenza asked participants to design a flag to represent humanity. They received submissions from around the world, and reproduced a selection for Reconnecting, a recent exhibition at the OXO Bargehouse.

Through these flags we can observe a variety of perspectives on humankind, and perhaps imagine a united and borderless human future.

This project is ongoing and their flag design workshop remains open for submissions (see links to left).

We are flag enthusiasts, designers and makers.
